Body Love Tips for Aquarius Season Wellness

In wellness astrology, aspects of your anatomy align with the zodiac signs. Those that are associated with Aquarius are the lower legs, ankles, peripheral circulatory system, and bio-energetic system (your life force and aura).

Support Your Ankles and Lower Legs

Ankles provide structure in a multifaceted way as they are a panoply of joints, muscles, bones and connective tissue. Weave ankle-supporting exercises like these into your self-care regimen, and take extra precaution to hydrate and stretch before exercising to avoid injury. Take a break from wearing too many unsupportive shoes, such as flip-flops or destabilizing high heels. As easy or glamorous as they may be, they can stress ankle joint stability.

The lower legs also host blood vessels that work against gravity, pumping blood from the lower body up to the heart. If this peripheral circulation system isn’t functioning well, it can lead to varicose veins, spider veins and legs that feel heavy or sore. Walk, use witch hazel compresses and try vein-strengthening herbs such as butcher’s broom and horse chestnut in your self-care regimen. Prominent veins could be a sign of a more serious condition known as chronic venous insufficiency, so check in with a doctor if that’s a concern for you.

Eat Fresh and Tropical Foods and Swap Your Coffee with Matcha

Fresh, “live” and raw foods that are beaming with life force energy can help you tap into invigorating energy of Aquarius season. Eat more salads and fruits, and add grounding nuts, seeds and beans to your diet. An over-reliance on raw may make some people feel emotionally “raw,” in which case, it’s good to mix in some hot dishes. If you live in a chillier climate, you might also consider eating vegetables in lightly cooked forms.

And how about a matcha latte for your afternoon pick me up? Rich in antioxidant phytonutrients, this powdered green tea, which was traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, is all the rage. While it does contain caffeine, the quantity is less than coffee. And instead of causing a spike of energy followed by a precipitous crash, matcha offers a sustainable boost. You can also add this vitality-enhancing green tower-of-power powder to recipes like smoothies or breakfast bowls.

Since Aquarius season can bring out the global explorers in us all, you might forgo the basic grapefruit for the goji berry, the ho-hum apple for acai and fruit-salad-staple melon for mangosteen? You may discover you like these more than your go-to’s! Guava, persimmon, dried mulberries and lucuma are a few more that are not only delicious but packed with phytonutrients that can bolster wellbeing.

Rethink Meal Times

During Aquarius season, you may flirt with your rebellious streak, not wanting to be hemmed in by schedules. Three square meals? Boring! Experiment with your approach to nourishment. You could try six small meals throughout the day or see how you feel if you do a few days of intermittent fasting each week. Or follow your hunger and mood. If you crave something outside of your usual fare, let your taste buds take you on an intrepid voyage.  Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius, so remember to honor at least the baseline healthy eating guidelines as you go!

Self-Care Tips for Aquarius Season

Flower Essences: Quaking Grass and Yarrow

Aquarius is the sign of community and during this solar cycle, you may find yourself spending more time in group settings—ideally ones that are intellectually and idealistically stimulating. Quaking Grass flower essence can help to bolster connection in an Aquarian way by honoring the spirit of individuality while simultaneously supporting the collective spirit. If you’re worried about losing yourself in “groupthink,” this flower essence can help you maintain a balanced sense. The essence may also be used as a room spray: Mix a few drops into a bottle mister. A few spritzes can keep the team productive while encouraging a heartfelt, collaborative process.

Aquarius is the sign that rules electricity. During this astrological season, you may be more sensitive to the energy fields around you. While tuning in to subtle dynamics can be wonderful, without boundaries you could become “supercharged” by electromagnetic fields (emitted by cell phone stations, WiFi, and other technology). This can lead to energetic depletion. Yarrow flower essence bolsters the auric field. It shields you from dissipating energetic influences while leaving you feeling protectively contained in your own radiant aura.

Spa Treatments: Acupuncture and Reiki

Acupuncture seems so Aquarian, most notably since it honors the signatures of this sign’s co-rulers, stern Saturn and radical Uranus. Thousands of years old, acupuncture is a healthcare system that’s time-tested (Saturn) and one that focuses on treating illness and uplifting wellness by inspiring the flow of vital energy force (Uranus). People see acupuncturists successfully for conditions such as pain, PMS, depression, digestive disorders, and more. Clinical research reviewed by the World Health Organization shows treatment for these conditions to have efficacy. A new acupuncture trend in the U.S. (with roots in China) is community acupuncture. In a communal setting (again, so Aquarian!)—you recline and enjoy treatment by a skilled practitioner for a fraction of the cost of a private session.

Another wellness therapy to balance life energy force is Reiki. While meditating on different sacred symbols, a Reiki practitioner transmits the vital force energy (known as qi or chi in Chinese, or as prana in Sanskrit) to parts of your body. Reiki helps activate the natural healing potential of the body and mind and is great for stress reduction and relaxation. If you find the process to be beneficial, consider Reiki training yourself. You could also participate in Reiki circles or communal healing experiences. Some Reiki circles (also known as Reiki shares) are open to practitioners only, but sometimes friends, family and the community are welcome.

Relaxation Practices: Mineral Salt Bath and Qigong

The symbol for Aquarius is the Water Bearer, a figure who pours this life-sustaining liquid from an urn, offering it in service to mankind. So, while not a water sign (Aquarius is an air sign), Aquarius is associated with the aqueous elixir of a mineral salt bath. Infused with minerals, such as magnesium-rich Epsom salts, muscles can relax and blood can circulate. Salt is also helpful to clear and harmonize your energy fields, a great boon during this electrically charged season. Add your own blend of essential oils and/or flower essences to make your bath uniquely yours.

A meditative movement practice, qigong has Aquarian characteristics being community oriented. In its native land of China, young and old, poor and rich take part in this group activity in public spaces. In a qigong practice, you perform gentle movements. The benefits are awareness to vibration fields within and around you, honing in on sensory perception, and increasing the flow of life force energy. Check for qigong videos online if no classes are offered in your area.
