Saturn moves into Aquarius December 16th – March 7th, 2023

Stamina and Strength

Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius and whilst this is not always an easy placement, there is a sense of familiarity. There is a great deal of stamina available to us, inner strength and resources we can draw on, an awareness of what we have learned not only intellectually but also from our experience of life. Saturn does not expend energy needlessly and is likely to be very focused here, even single-minded. There may be a risk of perfectionism and being hard on ourselves when the high expectations of Aquarius meet the discipline and hard work of Saturn.

Detachment

The famous Aquarian detachment is strengthened by this placement and with Saturn here we may struggle to understand other people, their motivations and goals, especially if these differ from our own. We may become very focused on the tangible and reluctant to connect with messy emotions or anything which feels chaotic and out of our control. One of the lessons of Saturn in Aquarius is to learn empathy for others, the ability to forgive not just others but also ourselves. The natural idealism of Aquarius gives Saturn very high standards here, which may simply be unrealistic.

Logical and Ordered

This is a very logical placement, working from an assumption of an ordered and predictable universe. There is plenty of practical common sense and self-discipline. Aquarius is the sign of fixed air and there is a risk of dogmatic thinking and stubborn opinions, which may be adhered to more out of habit than genuine understanding. Friendships and community will not be taken lightly under this placement and may be an important conduit for learning experiences and growth. There is a strong teacher energy to this placement, especially as Jupiter moves into Aquarius at the same time, in December 2020.

Creating Tangible Change

The lesson here lies in transforming thought patterns and putting ideology into practice. Saturn is always about work on some level and in Aquarius, the work is about creating tangible change, about transforming the collective in practical ways. Saturn works best when given a higher purpose and in Aquarius will readily take responsibility for the contributions we make to the collective and to group consciousness.

Real and Lasting

Saturn in Aquarius brings an opportunity to create real and lasting change, but also demands that we all face up to our responsibilities. There is nowhere to hide and the way forward is likely to be clear, although it may not be easy. An awkward semi-square aspect to misty Neptune throughout 2021 may bring any confusion or delusions out into the open, forcing us to work through them. Saturn is the planet of cold hard reality and whatever happens under Saturn in Aquarius needs to be real and to be taken seriously. Changes may take place which have been brewing for a while but haven’t been quite ready to take form. This is especially likely around February 2021 and throughout 2022 when Saturn makes a hard aspect with radical Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius. The old and new clash and will need to find a way to work together for the common, and greater, good.
