During Vedic period the society was divided into four classes according to the type of work performed by them. Brahmin was that section of society which spreaded education. They were teachers and very learned persons. The next class was that of Kshatriyas. That was the fighting class engaged in ruling and defending the country. The third class was that of the persons engaged in trade and commerce and the last class was that of the persons engaged in the service of all the three classes.

The classification was based on the nature of work done. They were Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaisha and Sudra in the descending order of status. The girl of a lower class could marry a boy of her own or higher class. 

In Astrology, the caste is determined from the Rashi or Moon Sign i.e. zodiac sign occupied by Moon at the time birth. The planets are also divided on the basis of castes.

Vasya Kuta

The word Vasya means Having control over Another Person. Vasya Kuta indicates charms and attraction.

Marriage is happy if there is mutual charm and attraction between the partners. Here charm and attraction does not mean physical beauty. Good Looks form no attraction if one of the partners is aggressive or anti social. For the partners to be happy, they have to be of the same type. If the Janma Rashi of the Girl is the Vasya Rashi of the Boy, it is considered that the Husband will have a Strong influence on the wife.

Now, count the Birth Nakshatra of groom from the Birth Nakshatra of bride and divide the result by 9. lf the remainder is 3, 5 or 7 then it is inauspicious and the score will be 0, otherwise beneficial and score will be one and a half. If both are benefic then score is 3.

If anyone is benefic and the other is malefic then score is one and a half and if both are malefic then score will be 0.

Yoni Kuta

Yoni means sex and Yoni Kuta is implies sexual compatibility.

The Nakshatra are divided into Male and Female Energy. Male is more active and dynamic one whereas Female is a Passive one. Some people also include another class other than Male and female which is -Eunuch.

Gana kuta

This seems to have an important bearing on the temperament and character of the couple concerned. This is essential for a satisfactory marriage union.

Stars are classified into three groups as Dev Gana, Manushya Gana and Rakshasa Gana. A Deva can marry a Deva, a Manushya Gana can marry a Manushya Gana and a Rakshasa Gan can marry a Rakshasa Gana. Dev Gana Boy can Marry a Manushya Gana Girl. Some people consider Rakshas Gana Boy can Marry a Manushya Gana Girl. This is a Medium Match. 

As per the classical Books of Astrology, Manushya Gana Girl Should not Marry a Rakshas Gana Girl and Dev Gana Boy should not marry a Rakshas Gana Girl. Rasi Porutham

It is also known as Bhakut dosha or Rashi Kuta.

So far we have taken into consideration either the Rashi or the constellations, But here we take both into consideration.

For marriage, a male born in the 7th, 10th, 11th or 8th, 9th and 12th signs from Janma Rashi of the girl is considered auspicious. If both male and female are born in one and the same Rashi but have different stars, the alliance is considered auspicious. The male born in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Rashi from that of the female should not enter into wedlock. 

Following situations may arise-
Same Rashi and same Nakshatra.
Same Rashi and same Nakshatra but the padas are different.
Same Rashi but different Nakshatra.
Same Nakshatra but different Rashi.

Same Rashi and same Nakshatra and the same pada of the partners is not desirable.

Rashis of the cuple should not be 2-12 to each other. Here 2-12 means adjacent rashis as Aries and Taurus. 

If the Rashi of the couple are 3-11 from each other they are auspicious or helpful.

If the Rashi of the couple are 4-10 to each other they are helpful and beneficial.

If the Rashi of the couple are 5-9 to each other they indicate ill luck respect of children. Some masters believe that the following group of 5-9 Rashi can be accepted. The groups are Aries and Leo, Taurus and Virgo, Gemini and Libra, Cancer and Scorpio, Leo and Sagittarius, Libra and Aquarius, Scorpio and Pisces, Sagittarius and Aries.

The Logic for not considering 5-9 relation is not very clear. In Astrology, 5-9 Relationship is considered as at the Most Beneficial Relationship. So when Both the Rashi is in 5-9 Relationship, it Should be considered as good. 

The Rashis of the couple should not be 6-8 to each other. They are most inauspicious to each other. But We may say that if the group is friendly it may be accepted.

If the Rashis of bride and groom are 7-7 to each other we get a very good combination. 

 

Nadi Porutham

Besides all the above agreements, there is another one named Nadi Porutam. This is given importance by astrologers at many places. This is considered to be the most significant kuta or agreement. In Sanskrit. Nadi has several meanings, but in astrology, it signifies pulse or nervous energy indicating the physiological and to a certain extent hereditary factors. It is also important for the Health factor of the Bride and Groom. 

While the Bhakuta test was based on the rasis the couple, Nadi test is based on the Nakshatra of the couple. There is 3 classification of the constellations. It is Adya, Madhya and Antya. The group of the constellations falling under each category is given below.

Adya Nadi- Ashwini, Ardra, Punarvasu, Uttar Phalguni, Hasta, Jyeshtha, Moola, Shatabhisha, Purba Bhadrapada.

Madhya Nadi- Bharani, Mrigshira, Pushya, P.Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, P. Ashadha, Dhanishtha, Uttar Bhadrapada.

Antya Nadi- Krittika, Rohini, Aslesa, Megha, Swati, Vishakha, U. Ashadha, Shravan, Revati.

The rule is that the Nadi of the couple should not be the same. In other words No approval of marriage Should be given if both the partners have the same Nadi.

Apart from These 8 Kind of Kuta or Porutham, there are Some other Agreements also.

Dina Kuta

Ensures that the couple remains healthy and free from diseases and enjoy all comforts of life. Absence of this agreement may lead to difference of opinion on day to day matters leading to arguments and hence lack of support to each other.

Count the constellation of the boy from that of the girl and divide by 9. If the remainder is 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, it is good. In this case of Dina Kuta is present. If the Remainder is 1,3, 5 or 7 Dina Kuta is absent. The number of units of compatibility assigned to this kuta is 3 in case agreement is found.

Mahendra Kuta

The constellation of the boy counted from that of the girl should be the 4th, 7th, 10th, 13th, 16th, 19th, 22nd or 25th. Mahendra porutham will bring harmony and enhance longevity. The farther the birth Nakshatra of the boy is from the girl’s Nakshatra, the better it will be for their happiness.

Rajju Porutham

This porutham indicates the strength or duration of married life and therefore it merits special attention. Rajju Porutham is an indicator of longevity of the marriage.

If the Nakshatra of the couple do not fall in the same Rajju, it is good.

But if lords of Janma Rashi of the boy and that of the girl are one and the same planet or if they are mutual friends or if Janma Rashi of the boy and the girl are in mutual 7-7 position, Rajju Dosha, need not be considered.

Rajju is an important porutham in Nakshatra matching of the horoscopes.

Vedha Porutham

Vedha Porutham means affliction. Certain stars are capable of affecting or afflicting certain other stars situated at a particular distance from them. For example, Aswani is said to cause Vedha to 18th star, i.e. Jyesta, from it, Bharani to the 16th star, i.e. Anuradha, and so on. No marriage should be performed between the boy and the girl who’s Janma Nakshatra has Vedha with Each other.
