4 Things to Do As Mercury Retrograde Ends

What’s safe to do as Mercury Retrograde ends on March 9, and the planet of technology, communication and travel moves direct?

by The AstroTwins

Rejoice! Mercury retrograde ends on March 9! That three-week beast of a technology scrambling, reputation unraveling, traffic jamming transit ends late night March 9, 2020.

Mercury, planet of communication, transportation and information, has been on a reverse rampage since February 16, backing up through foggy Pisces, then retreating into geeky Aquarius on March 4 where it doubled down on the technical breakdowns. But just before midnight EDT this March 9, 2020, the buzzy planet will shift back into drive and help us restore some order to our courts.

When Mercury turns retrograde in Pisces, the sign of illusions and misinformation, it’s difficult to discern WHAT is true and what is just fear-based hype. Mercury’s 2020 backstroke through the Fish’s waters have been particularly discomforting, bringing us plummeting markets, a late-breaking pivot in the Democratic primaries, and a worldwide airborne virus of mysterious origins. While we actually predicted a “black swan” event in our 2020 Horoscope Guide, we didn’t know that Mercury’s reverse commute would bring international travel restrictions at these proportions.

In spite of the disquieting news updates, Mercury’s course correction should bring a sense of clarity, revealing our best next steps, even if the full picture remains hazy. Head’s up: Mercury retrograde has a “shadow” period, so you may still feel the effects for a couple of weeks (until March 30) while the planet straightens itself out. But still, go on and liberate yourself from these retrograde burdens. Mercury is direct (forward)—and this is a safe space.

4 things safe to do when Mercury Retrograde ends

And before the next one, in July 2020!

1. Upgrade your gadgets and system software.

So maybe you DID throw your phone across the room in a moment of retrograde rage. You don’t have to punish yourself eternally by suffering with a cracked screen. You might be eligible for an upgrade. Or a payment plan. Either way, it’s safe to bring your gadgets up to code with the latest iOS, app version or hardware.

2. Come out of hiding.

A meme went (cough) viral for the past couple years of a full-knit Mercury retrograde bodysuit—an image that hit a little too close to home this retrograde around, thanks to the spread of the coronavirus. While there are situations that require legitimate quarantine, there’s also a lot of fear circulating. Have you put yourself in a social isolation booth due to Mercury’s misunderstandings? If you don’t HAVE to hole up at home, come out and commune. Or host a dinner party, movie night or a Google Hangout! Just make sure you’re connecting to other people. Those internal monologues can take you to dark places while Mercury’s in reverse. The fastest way back to center is to get into dialogue.

3. Keep it real when Mercury Retrograde ends.

Been walking on eggshells for the past three weeks? We can’t say that we blame ya. Molehills have a way of blowing up into mountains while Mercury is in reverse. Starting now, you can gingerly broach that touchy topic. Go in as gently as possible without burying your truth.

But before you do, think: How important is it REALLY to tell your friend that her blond ombre is too brassy or to call out a coworker for not responding to your message two weeks ago? Unless these admissions are truly going to build bridges, it might be best to just keep your opinions to yourself. Need to get it off your chest? It can be helpful to visualize the outcome of the conversation—which, we’re hoping that YOU’RE hoping will be a peaceful one. See you and your bestie raising a toast after she gets her color redone or your coworker sitting by your side as you orient him to the finer points of Slack.

4. Sign your name.

Decisions, decisions. There’s nothing quite like a retrograde to leave us deliberating endlessly. Retrogrades are better times for researching than surging forward, anyway. As the messenger planet pivots forward, the coast is clear to commit in a more formal way. Send the contract to your attorney or review the fine print like a hawk (or, preferably, both). You’ll soon be ready to Docusign and get the collaborations in gear!
